Missing child located safe following grid search
A three-year-old child missing in Picton on the weekend was returned home safely.
On Saturday, Sept. 14 around 3 p.m., Prince Edward OPP officers received a request for assistance in locating a young child that had wandered away from their residence.
The child had been missing for approximately 20 minutes and there was concern due to the proximity to a busy roadway and a heavily wooded area.
Emergency services attended, joined forces and began a grid search to cover the area. The child was located less than an hour later and returned safely to the family.
11 vehicles taken out of service
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) joined forces with the Ministry of Transportation to conduct a commercial motor vehicle blitz in Prince Edward County.
On Sept. 13 members of the OPP’s Highway Safety Division TIME (Traffic Incident Management Enforcement) team conducted enforcement around Prince Edward County.
Inspectors checked 18 vehicles and 11 were taken out of service for repairs. Three had licence plates removed for serious safety defects. Officers issued 14 charges under the Highway Traffic Act, including overweight violations, no pre-trip inspections, expired annual inspections, no CVOR (Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration), improper drivers licensing and equipment violations.
Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) safety forms part of the OPP’s overall Provincial Traffic Safety Strategy. It is every driver’s responsibility to share our roads safely.
Proactive policing stops drivers
Prince Edward OPP took two impaired motorists off the roadways last weekend.
On Sept. 14 at approximately 4 a.m., members of the Prince Edward County OPP stopped a motorist on County Road 4 in the County. As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old from Trenton, was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 10.
On Sept. 16 at approximately 2 a.m., PEC OPP were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 in the County. Officers observed a vehicle attempt to evade the RIDE and conducted a traffic stop near Hennessey St. Upon further investigation, a 23-year-old from Picton was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired and Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 9. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
OPP seek assistance with theft investigation
Prince Edward OPP seeks assistance in investigating a theft reported to have occurred in Picton on Sept. 5 around 10 a.m., at a commercial facility on McDonald Drive.
The complainant advised that unknown suspects had gained entry into the property and stole 14 Stihl chainsaws from the location. Through investigation it is believed that this occurred sometime within the previous two days.

Impaired driving charge
A collision on Salem Road has led to impaired driving charges.
On Sept. 8 at approximately 5 p.m. Prince Edward OPP responded to a two vehicle collision on Salem Road. One of the drivers was transported to hospital due to non-life threatening injuries. As a result of the investigation, one of the drivers was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
A 31-year-old from Consecon has been charged with Operation while impaired and Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 25.
Impaired charge at traffic stop
A traffic stop in Picton has led to impaired driving charges on Sept. 7 at approximately 9 p.m., when Prince Edward OPP stopped a motorist on Picton Main Street.
As a result of the investigation the driver, a 36-year-old from Quebec, was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired and Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 9. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
Single vehicle incident leads to impaired driving charges
A single vehicle incident on Highway 49 on Sept. 5 at approximately 9p.m., led Prince Edward OPP to investigate. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. The driver did not sustain any injury.
A 42-year-old from Wellington was charged with Operation while impaired, Operation while impaired – blood alcohol and Drive motor vehicle – no licence
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 2. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
Vehicle roll-over results in charges
A vehicle roll-over on Christian Road has led to impaired driving charges.
On Aug. 25, at approximately 2:11 a.m., members of the Prince Edward County OPP responded to the scene. The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old from Alberta was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired and Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 2, 2024. They also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP have charged a driver following a RIDE program check Monday, Aug. 19 at approximately 3 a.m. on Highway 62 in Prince Edward County.
Officers spoke to a driver and further investigation led to an arrest and transport to the detachment for further testing. A 39-year-old from Belleville, was charged with Operation while impaired and Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration .
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 11. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
Picton man arrested in connection with fire
A 31-year-old Picton man is facing murder and arson charges in connection with a fatal residential fire.
On Aug. 3, just before 8:15 p.m., Lennox and Addington (L&A) County OPP along with the Greater Napanee Fire Department and Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services responded to a fire at a multi-dwelling residence on John Street, Greater Napanee. A 67-year-old resident was transported to the hospital by ambulance and pronounced deceased a short time later.
The Picton man has been arrested and charged with Murder, Criminal harassment – threatening conduct, Arson – disregard for human life, Arson – damage to property (three counts).
The L&A County OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshall and the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police investgating death at Point Petre
Prince Edward OPP are investigating a death at Point Petre.
Sunday, Aug. 4 shortly before 7 p.m., officers responded alongside Hastings Quinte Paramedic Service and Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue to Point Petre.
Reports stated individuals had been in the water. Additional assistance was provided by of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
A 35-year-old individual from Prince Edward County was pronounced deceased.
Impaired driving charge
A 46-year-old Deseronto resident faces impaired driving charges following an incident July 29 at approximately 11 p.m.
Prince Edward OPP responded to a suspicious vehicle call for service on County Road 4 in Prince Edward County. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
The driver has been charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Aug. 21, 2024.
The accused’s licence is suspended for 90 days and vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Man faces charges in firearm incident
A 30-year-old Prince Edward County man is facing several firearms offences charges following investigation of an incident in May.
On May 20, 2024, shortly after 2 a.m., Prince Edward County OPP officers were called to an address on Union Street in Picton where a firearm had been discharged and one individual was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The 30-year-old was charged with: Careless use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition;
Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose; Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm; Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm; Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo; Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
and Public mischief.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 31.
Multiple fraud charges related to losses of more than $500,000
A 65-year-old Prince Edward County resident is facing multiple fraud related offences.
With assistance from Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) an investigation was conducted.
Prince Edward County OPP officers laid charges in connection with a lengthy fraud investigation looking into offences dating back several years, with numerous victims. The losses are estimated to be over approximately $500,000.
He was charged with Criminal Code offences including: Fraud over $5000 – fifteen counts; Theft over $5000 – fifteen counts; Make false statement in writing- the making of a loan – four counts.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Aug. 28.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information surrounding these incidents is being urged to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
Police warn of crypto currency scam
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Cyber-Enabled Fraud Team is assisting in an investment scam investigation where victims are losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in fake crypto currency investments.
Investigators are warning the public not to engage with the following websites:

Protect yourself:
· Once you send your crypto, it is gone.
· Government agencies do not accept cryptocurrencies.
· Conduct your own due diligence, ask questions and do your research before sending anyone your crypto.
Man facing charges assault charges
A disturbance at Base 31 has resulted in one person facing criminal charges.
Prince Edward OPP were called to the facility on Kingsley Road just before 7:30 p.m. June 30 as an individual had been restrained by private security staff.
The investigation found that an intoxicated male had attempted to walk away from an event at that location. Security team members, concerned for the individual’s safety, offered to call a taxi to ensure he could get home safely. The male became confrontational and assaultive and was restrained.
A 59-year-old man from Prince Edward County was charged with Assault, Assault with intent to resist arrest and Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 24.
Impaired charges laid and drugs seized
A public report of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 62 in Prince Edward County resulted in an arrest, charges, and drugs seized.
Prince Edward OPP responded just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 and located the vehicle on County Road 1.
The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for testing by a Drug Recognition Evaluation Officer. A search of the car resulted in the seizure of Ketamine, amphetamine and GHB.
A 28-year-old from Montreal has been charged under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – three counts.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 24.
The accused’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
RIDE program results in impaired driving charge
A Wednesday night RIDE program by members of the Prince Edward OPP resulted on one driver being arrested.
Officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near the Bay Bridge shortly after 12 a.m. June 13.
Officers conducted a test on one driver with a screening device and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
A 41-year-old of Belleville has been charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 3. His licence is suspended for 90 days and vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Person charged with sexual assault
A Prince Edward County resident has been charged after a report of a sexual assault was made to OPP on June 11, 2024.
Officers conducted an investigation and arrested a 37-year-old male later that day. He has been charged with Sexual assault, Theft under $5000and Fail to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton.
The OPP will not release any further details to protect the identity of the victim.
Incident results in careless driving charge
A 34-year-old man from Kingston is facing careless driving charges following a single vehicle incident Monday, west of Demorestville.
Prince Edward OPP officers responded to the incident on County Road 14, between Lornas Lane and Crofton Road, just before 10 p.m. June 10.
A car had left the road, striking and damaging a hydro pole and a fence. There were no injuries reported and alcohol was not a factor.
Incident east of Demorestville results in impaired driving charges
Prince Edward OPP charged an individual with impaired driving after an incident east of Demorestville.
Officers were called to County Road 15 in the Foster Road area just before 10 p.m. June 4. It was reported that a vehicle was being driven in an erratic manner.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Following use of a screening device, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

Man with replica firearm arrested outside convenience store
Prince Edward OPP have made an arrest after a reported incident involving a firearm in Picton.
On June 2 shortly after 12 a.m., officers were called to convenience store on Paul Street where a man was reported to be outside with a gun. Officers located the male, arrested him and found a replica firearm which looked like a handgun.
A 38-year-old from Napanee, has been charged with: Possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose; Carrying a concealed weapon and Fail to comply with a probation order – three counts.
The accused was released from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 26.
Three drivers charged with impaired offences
Prince Edward OPP conducted a series of impaired driving investigations over the weekend.
All three individuals were released from custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton at a later date. They had their vehicles impounded for seven days and licences suspended for 90 days.
On May 26 shortly before 2 a.m. officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near Rossmore when a vehicle entered the program. Officers spoke with the driver and as a result, administered a screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for furt her testing. A 48-year-old from Belleville was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
On May 25 shortly after 8 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62 and spoke with the driver. A screening device was administered and as a result, a 26-year-old from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
Speeding
On May 24 around 9 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on County Road 49. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 42-year-old from Shannonville, was charged with the following offences:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation w hile impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Operate motor vehicle without insurance
Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Speeding
OPP report firearm incident in Picton
UPDATE MAY 21: Prince Edward OPP continue to investigate a firearm incident in Picton.
On May 20, 2024, shortly after 2 a.m. officers were called to an address on Union Street in Picton.
“A firearm had been discharged and one individual was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” reports Bill Dickson, OPP Media Relations Coordinator.
He stated the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit conducted an extensive search of the area.
“Officers believe this was not a random incid ent and that there was no risk to the general public.”
The OPP continues to investigate this incident. Anyone with information, or who has potentially relevant doorbell or dashcam video, should call Prince Edward OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
MAY 20: A ‘shelter in place’ was called, then later closed on social media in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Prince Edward OPP advised residents to lock all doors and windows due to an increased police presences Monday around 3:30 a.m. from Union to Harvey Streets and Church Street to Pineridge Drive.
The ‘shelter in place is no longer an immediate threat to public safety’ was lifted about two hours later.
Police report an ongoing investigation but “there is no longer a threat to public safety.”
No details were released to media. No further details were released on social media.
Dangerous operation charges follow head-on collision
A 61-year-old Picton resident faces several charges following a head-on collision on Union Road.
On May 13 shortly after 7:30 a.m., a Prince Edward OPP officer spotted a pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 62. Before the officer could attempt to stop the vehicle, it fled and turned onto Union Road. That’s where the pick-up collided with a car. The driver of the car was transported to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the truck was not hurt.
The truck driver has been charged with Dangerous operation – Criminal Code and Speeding 1-49 km/h over the posted limit – Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 12.
Driver charged
A 29-year-old from Prince Edward County faces impaired driving charges following a RIDE program check.
On May 7 shortly after 2:30 p.m., Prince Edward OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near Rossmore when a vehicle entered. Officers spoke with the driver and administered a screening device. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. The driver was charged with the following offences:
Operation whil e impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
The driver was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 7. They also had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
Stunt driving charge
Prince Edward County OPP report it would be an expensive weekend for a 25-year-old driver from Etobicoke who had to find an alternate way home.
The driver was charged with stunt driving, clocked at 133km/h in a posted 80km/h zone on County road 1. The driver was also had their licence suspended and vehicle impounded.
Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP charged a driver with impaired diving offences after a traffic stop April 24 around 9 p.m. on Picton Main Street.
After a screening device was administered, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
The 32-year-old driver from Markham was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
Impaired driving charges over the weekend
Prince Edward OPP investigated several impaired related offences over the weekend.
On April 26 around 8 p.m., OPP received a report of a vehicle in the ditch near Fish Lake Road. Officers were updated the vehicle was out of the ditch and continued moving.
Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. A 31-year-old from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Around 2 a.m. April 27, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near Rossmore when a vehicle entered the program.
A screening device was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. A 52-year-old from Whitby was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Just after midnight April 28, officers were conducting another RIDE program near Rossmore. A screening device was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. A 39-year-old from Belleville was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and vehicles impounded for seven. They were released from custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
On April 27 shortly before 10 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62. Officers spoke with the driver and as a result, a screening device was administered. The driver registered a warn and had their licence suspended for three days. The vehicle was removed by a licenced driver.
Driver charged
A 48-year-old Prince Edward County resident is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic complaint.
Prince Edward OPP, on Monday, April 22 shortly before 8:30 p.m., received a traffic complaint, then an update that a vehicle had entered the ditch on County Road 2.
Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle parked on the shoulder. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the driver who was transported to detachment for further testing.
The driver was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. They also had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
Traffic complaint leads to charges
A 38-year-old Prince Edward County resident is facing impaired driving offences following a traffic complaint.
On Friday, April 19 shortly after 9 p.m. Prince Edward OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers responded to a parking lot off Main Street Picton and spoke with a driver of an ATV. Following use of a screening device, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
The driver was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs. The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
The ATV was impounded for seven days. The OPP would like to thank individuals for remaining vigilant for impaired drivers. Should you suspect someone is impaired, call 911.
Joint commercial blitz checks 25 vehicles
The OPP joined forces with the Ministry of Transportation and Kingston Police to conduct a commercial motor vehicle blitz in Prince Edward County.
On Thursday, April 18, officers and inspectors checked 25 vehicles and six were taken out of service for defects. Three had licence plates removed for serious safety defects. Officers issued 34 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
Prince Edward OPP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant John Hatch said the OPP remains fully committed to traffic safety. “Officers continue to make a difference in preventing serious collisions on our roadways.”
Police report weapon at school was a toy
Prince Edward County OPP reported on the social media platform X they responded to a local school today following a report of a weapon on the property.
“Individuals were located and spoken to and found to have a toy. There is no concern for public safety,” the report stated. “The OPP is aware of rumours and speculation online but can assure everyone that there was no real threat.”
Driver pronounced deceased; cruiser struck during investigation
A 71-year-old was pronounced deceased following a single vehicle incident in Picton Monday.
Prince Edward OPP continue to investigate the incident on Main, near Paul Street, April 1 shortly before 3 p.m.
Information obtained stated the 71-year-old driver was unconscious. The individual was transported to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Preliminary information shows the individual had a medical episode prior to the collision.
While responding, a police cruiser was struck on its driver side. There were no injuries to either driver.
OPP would like to remind drivers to be aware of emergency vehicles responding to emergencies. Vehicles are directed to pull to the right when directed by emergency crews or vehicles.
Search found guns and drugs
The East Region Community Street Crime Unit has arrested and charged two people after executing a search warrant in Picton yesterday.
On March 21, the search warrant was executed on Nery Avenue with the assistance of the East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit. As a result, officers seized a firearm, a prohibited device, ammunition and a quantity of suspected cocaine.
A 34 and a 28 year-old, both from Prince Edward County, were charged with Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, Uauthorized possession of a firearm, Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition and Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon.
Both were held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice March 22.
Scam fire inspection call
Prince Edward OPP report the public should be aware of false fire inspection phone calls.
In its ‘Friday Fraud Facts’ alerts, the OPP note receiving information recently that an individual received a phone call from someone claiming to be a fire inspector.
“The inspector advised they needed to attend and do a fire inspection of smoke alarms and other fire safety appliances,” states Const. Aaron Miller, Community Safety Officer. “In previous cases, the inspector has asked the homeowner/ business employee to provide them with photos and then there is a fraudulent fine issued, sometimes paid in crypto currency. The fraudsters may target individuals or businesses.”
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue Fire Prevention Officer Mike Branscombe said the fire service will never ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency.
“Should we need to inspect a residence or business, we will attend with proper identification and fire service vehicles,” said Branscombe.

Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP have charged a driver with refusal as result of a single vehicle incident.
Shortly after midnight Friday, March 8 officers responded alongside Hastings Quinte EMS and Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue to an incident on Miller Road.

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 20. The driver also had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
RIDE stop leads to multiple charges
Prince Edward OPP laid multiple charges at a RIDE program stop March 3, shortly after midnight at Highway 62 near Rossmore.
Officers spoke with a driver who entered the RIDE and as a result, administered a screening test. It was also later learned the driver had provided a false identification.
A 31-year-old from Markham was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice; Operation while prohibited; Obstruct peace officer; Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 27. The driver also had their vehicle impounded.
Assault and impaired charges
Prince Edward OPP have charged an individual with assault and impaired offences.
On Feb. 22 shortly before 11 p.m. officers received a report of a dispute along County Road 1 near the detachment. Officers spoke with an individual and witnesses at scene. As a result of further investigation, a screening device was administered and the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 40-year-old individual from Prince Edward County, was charged with Assault, Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. They had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.

More than $50,000 in stolen property recovered
More than $50,000 in stolen property was located earlier this month from multiple break and enters reported in Prince Edward County and surrounding areas.
On Feb. 7, members of the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit were involved in locating multiple pieces of stolen property in Prince Edward County. These items were from multiple break and enters in the County, Central Hastings and Lennox and Addington detachment areas.
Property included a 2008 Honda all-terrain vehicle (ATV), a 2002 Honda off-road motorcycle, two KTM 2020 off-road motorcycles, a 2014 KTM off-road motorcycle, a 2010 Yamaha ATV, 2021 Yamaha ATV, a Kubota riding lawnmower, chainsaws, generators and other power tools.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old from Belleville Ontario has been charged with two counts of theft over $5000; four counts of Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence; two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and four counts of Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
He is currently in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on a further date.
More than $80,000 missing attached to fraud
Prince Edward OPP charged a 51-year-old Brighton man Feb. 13 with several fraud related counts following a lengthy fraud investigation.
An organization reported that more than $80,000, had been misappropriated.
Charges include Criminal breach of trust; Forgery – three counts; Fraud over $5000 – four counts; Fraud under $5000 – one count; Theft over $5000 – four counts and Theft under $5000 – one count.
The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Feb. 29.
The OPP will not identify the name of the organization, as it is considered a victim.
More than $100,000 missing in fraud investigation
Prince Edward OPP have charged a Centre Hastings resident following a lengthy fraud investigation.
On Feb. 9 officers arrested and charged the person with Fraud over $5,000, Criminal breach of trust and Forgery.
Dating back to 2021, reports stated that more than $100,000 had gone missing. The 43-year-old was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 6.
Charge of intoxication in public place, mischief
Prince Edward OPP have charged an individual after a police cruiser window was smashed.
On Jan. 31 shortly before 4 p.m. officers received a report that a suspicious individual was approaching children near Church Street in Picton.
Officers arrived and the individual appeared to be intoxicated in a public place. The individual was arrested. While being placed in the cruiser, the individual struck the rear window causing it to break.
A 25-year-old from Prince Edward County was charged with mischief and being intoxicated in a public place.
The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Feb. 28.
Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP charged an individual with driving while impaired.
On Jan. 26 shortly before 10 p.m. officers were conducting a RIDE program on County Road 4. A vehicle entered the program and officers spoke with the driver. A screening device was administered and the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 24-year-old from Belleville was charged with Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Fail to comply with probation order; Unauthorized possession of weapon.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Feb. 14.
The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
Two face gun, drug and stolen property charges
Two Consecon residents face gun and drug charges after police executed a search warrant at a Salem Road residence Thursday, Jan. 25.
Members of the OPP’s East Region Community Street Crime Unit charged the two in a joint operation including the Prince Edward County, Lennox & Addington County, Quinte West, Frontenac, and Madoc Community Street Crime Unit along with the assistance of the Tactical Response Unit (TRU).
Police seized four firearms, assorted ammunition, 66 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, $840 in Canadian currency, two scales, two stolen snowmobile, and a stolen dirt bike.
As a result of the investigation, OPP has charged one 26-year-old with unauthorized possession of a firearm – four counts; Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – four counts; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine; Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 – two counts; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.
A 47-year-old was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm; Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device o r ammunition; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
The accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Prince Edward County on Feb. 28th.
Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP charged an individual with impaired driving Jan. 14 around 8 p.m. after officers received a request for assistance from Hastings Quinte Paramedic Service on County Road 35.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a driver. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
The 38-year-old from Napanee was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Jan. 31. The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
RIDE check leads to impaired driving charge
Prince Edward OPP charged a 42-year-old Prince Edward County resident following a check at a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.
On Jan. 9, shortly before midnight, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Main Street Picton when a vehicle entered the program. Officers spoke with the driver and as a result, a screening device was administered. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. The driver was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The driver was released on an undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Feb. 7, 2024. They also had their drivers licence suspended for three days. The vehicle was not impounded.
