OPP investigating government handling of documents related to cancelled wind project off County shore

The Ontario Provincial Police have launched a criminal investigation into deleted documents related to the cancellation in 2011 of an industrial wind turbine project in the waters off Prince Edward County.
The Trillium Power Wind Corp was planning a 138-turbine project in Lake Ontario, up to 28km from the County’s shore, when the McGuinty Liberal government announced in 2011 it would be suspending all offshore projects until scientific research was completed.
Trillium Power alleges documents relevant to its $500-million lawsuit against the province over the moratorium have “vaporized”.
No charges have been laid.
This is a second energy-related case as OPP are also investigating two former Liberal aides over alleged destruction of documents, breach of trust and mischief in relation to data, following the cancellation by the former premier of power plants in Mississauga and Oakville before the 2011 election.
“In the wake of ever escalating electricity bills, cancelled gas plants, and sweetheart deals to select power companies, Ontarians deserve to know how electricity planning is done in this province,” said Todd Smith, Prince Edward Hastings MPP. “Ontarians deserve nothing less than the truth and, at this point, it is clear that the only way we will get to it is through a public inquiry.”

The Ostrander Point ERT decision was due over a month ago! What gives? Just hope that Government officials are not privy to the decision prior to release to avoid any influence or re-consideration. One would hope this decision is open and rid of any inappropriate influences. A Green Energy Act that is so stacked against the appelant would naturally make one wonder.
No, I think this was under McGuinty’s watch not Wynne’s.
Wynn government mimmicking her teacher Dalton !
I wish they could investigate approvals instead. Particularly pressures placed on Ministries to accept harming the species they are sworn to protect.
Another gas plant fiasco. Buying more votes. Not to mention all the pollution on the bottom of the lake that they would churn up.
It was the right decision for the wrong reason.
Seems the Liberals wanted to retain their GTA votes – no wind turbines on Lake Ontario next to Scarborough Bluffs or other areas bordering GTA.
Let’s not look to hard – if anything the right decision was made to cancel this off-shore project. But what an outfit our provincial government has turned out to be – at every turn they screw it up!
Once may be a fluke; twice is a pattern.
You got it Todd! but I will not hold my breath.
