Panther Girls Hockey rolls out second win

Story by Mike Pothier

PECI Girl’s Hockey Panthers downed the Central Hastings Secondary School Centurions 5-1 to extend their league play to 2-0.

Sam Ward had a pair of goals while Tynika Williams, Alex Staley, Abby Terpstra tallied singles. Assisting on the goals were Kendra Marion, Abby Terpstra (2), Sarah Young (2), Kellie-Anne Maycock, Celina Fox and Morgan Clarke.

Taylor Snider was well en route to a shut-out until a bouncing puck just wouldn’t settle down in the crease and found its way into the net with just a minute and a half left in the game.

Things got exciting during the Centurion attempt to stop a Panther blow out. While Alex Staley was serving her misconduct penalty setting the tone with one Centurion player, Sam Ward shared a few words of wisdom with an escorted and penalized opponent in the dying seconds of the game after being charged and body checked.

The next Panther league game is Wednesday Dec. 9th at 3pm at the Rink B Wellness Center in Belleville against the Nicholson Catholic College Crusaders.

The Panthers will be in a tournament at the Napanee Strathcona Paper Centre on Thursday, Dec 10th starting against their league rivals East Northumberland Secondary School Blue Dragons at 9am. Followed by Napanee District Secondary School Golden Hawks at 11am and Sydenham High School Golden Eagles at 1pm. If all goes well, the finals are at 3pm.

The girl’s are on the road for the next three games, and returning to Picton in the new year on Thursday, January. 14th against Bayside Secondary School Red Devils. Puck drops at 3pm.
