Emotions ran high for Panther girls hockey players following their loss at the Central Ontario Second School Athletics championships Monday.
The Panthers bowed out at COSSA after losing to the St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School Thunder, from Cobourg, by a score of 4-1. The Panthers were in the game right up to the last 10 seconds when the Thunder scored an open netter.
The very defensive Panther team did a fantastic job managing the puck in their end by blocking numerous Thunder shots and controlling rebounds.
Unfortunately, living in their own end slowly caught up with the fatigued Panthers and they couldn’t generate a good opportunity to score in the final minutes.
Goalie Taylor Snider was extremely busy in the Panther net and was the star of the game for the Panthers. Abby Terpstra scored the only Panther goal with Bay of Quinte Championship heroine Alex Staley and Morgan Clark assisting.
Coach Laurie Spencer remains proud of the team.
“The girls played very well. They left everything they had out on the ice. I’m very proud of the team. We had a great season and are looking forward to next season.”
St. Mary’s Thunder was taken down by St. Theresa Titans 2-1 in the gold medal game. The Titans move onto OFSAA play.
