Panthers third a close contest

The PECI Panthers hockey team travelled to Trenton last week to face Bayside in their third game of the season. It was actually a close contest until the third period when the Panthers exploded for three goals to nail down a 6-3 win. Corey Prince had a big afternoon with four goals while Braden Karnik collected three points of his own with a goal and two helpers. Keenan Wight scored the other PECI goal on a nice play set up by Eli Mayhew and Quinn Abram. Josh Arnold had another strong game in the Panthers cage.
Thursday the Panthers hosted Centre Hastings in Picton. This was a game the home squad probably didn’t deserve to win, at least not based on a huge difference in the shot count, but the Cats had some glorious chances at open nets to steal a tie or even a win from the visitors. The teams exchanged goals in the first period and it wasn’t until 5:43 of the third frame that Centre Hastings scored what turned out to be the winner for a 2-1 final. The Panthers lone goal was an unassisted effort by Prince while Arnold delivered a stellar performance in net.
The Panthers next home game is Thursday, Jan. 12th at 3 pm in Picton versus St. Theresa’s.
