Join the South Shore Joint Initiative online Wednesday, March 16 as multi media storyteller Suzanne Pasternak presents an hour-long program of live performance, storytelling and film excerpts from her documentaries as well as her photo documentation of Prince Edward County’s South Shore.
This body of work was born out of Pasternak’s 35-year love affair with the south shore, which was a community she lived in for all those years.
There will be excerpts from two of her television documentaries about the commercial fisherman of the South Shore as well as never before seen footage from her documentary about her folk opera Minerva which tells the story of the young 17-year-old heroine in 1878 from the South Shore.
Joining Suzanne will be the actress Paulina McMahon who will do some dramatic readings verbatim from some of the colourful interviews with South shore elders collected over the years.
This will be a highly entertaining and educational hour with a montage of Suzanne’s best work. She has spent more than 30 years collecting oral histories in the field, filming and photo documenting her subjects. Her focus has been in Eastern Ontario, Canada and the various islands in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. This work led her to create historically-based folk operas, musicals, plays, three books, two documentaries and two albums. She also has a lecture series she presents regionally.
