The Hastings Prince Edward Land Trust has raised $60,000 of $85,000 needed for the maintenance fund required to complete the purchase of the 466-acre Miller family farm in South Marysburgh.
A donation of $3,000 from the Prince Edward County Field Naturalists boosted the campaign at its mid-way point.
“Thanks to the support of many individuals and conservation-oriented organizations, we are now within reach of our target,” said Dr. Robert Clapp, the County’s representative on the Land Trust Board of Directors. “We appeal to conservation-oriented people who have been thinking about donating to the Miller Family Nature Reserve to please do it now and help push us over the top before the mid-January deadline set by our funders. A donation to support the Nature Reserve is truly a ‘gift that keeps on giving.'”
The Land Trust’s offer to purchase a 466-acre property on the South Shore of Prince Edward County was accepted by the Miller family, with a closing date of Jan. 15, 2012. The Land Trust secured the purchase monies of $550,000 from the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Ontario Heritage Trust.
Prior to the January closing, the Land Trust needs to raise an additional $85,000 for a stewardship fund to ensure the reserve can be maintained in perpetuity.
The Nature Reserve is located south of Hilltop Road between Helmer Road and Brewers Road in South Marysburgh.
Tax-deductible donations can be made on-line at http://miller-family-reserve.com/ or by mail at Hastings Prince Edward Land Trust, PO Box 20042, Belleville, Ontario, Canada K8N 5V1

Our thanks go to the Prince Edward County Field Naturalists for their very generous donation toward this project. County residents have made donations both large and small. The support is incredible. Perhaps someone on your gift list would appreciate the thought that they have helped put us over the top. I know I have enjoyed gifts of donations made in my name.
