PEC Chamber honours excellence in business at second virtual awards ceremony

Lenny Epstein and Gavin North, of ‘Short Attention Spa’ hosted an intermission game show featuring winners of last year’s excellence awards – the prize winner receiving a multi-mushroom pizza from the Royal Hotel menu.

Prince Edward County’s Chamber of Commerce honoured leadership and business excellence during its second annual online Business Excellence Awards – this year streamed from the newly-renovated Royal Hotel, downtown Picton, Jan. 27.

“We had hoped we would be holding this year’s business excellence awards show in person, but due to COVID, we are once again virtual,” said Duarte Da Silva President, PEC Chamber of Commerce noting the event is designed to recognize the businesses of PEC and their “unwaivering entrepreneurship, resilience, service to the community and contributions to the economic and social fabric in PEC.”

Special guests, MP Ryan Williams, MPP Todd Smith and PEC Mayor Steve Ferguson also congratulated Prince Edward County businesses for their resilience and successes over the past two years of the pandemic.

Steve Anthony, best known as one of the first VJ’s for MuchMusic and a CP24 host, was master of ceremonies.

The process of nominees and winners, he noted, was “not stuffed into a confetti can and fired into the air”, but included an adjudication team and based on criteria that included outstanding business leadership, community involvement, entrepreneurship, environment, employee welfare, innovation and growth.
