PEC Sports Hall of Fame announces 2026 inductees

The Prince Edward County Sports Hall of Fame will honour more great athletes and supporters with the its 2026 inductees.

Located in the Wellington arena, the first eight inductees were recognized in 2012. Since, 20 more inductees have been made in a wide variety of sports, including javelin, baseball, hockey, boat racing, track, swimming, arm wrestling, pole vault, football, golf, rugby, harness racing, rowing and volleyball

The PEC Sports Hall of Fame honours individuals who have obtained prominence or distinction in any field of sport as a representative from Prince Edward County. Recognition includes a plaque and a short history to be displayed on the wall.

To be honoured this year:

John and Jane Allison

John and Jane Allison – “Mr. & Mrs. Baseball” have been organizing minor baseball in Prince Edward County for over 30 years and were leaders in developing the “Field of Dreams” ball diamonds in Wellington.

Vicky Gallagher

 

 

 

Vicki Gallagher – local all-round, multi-sport, stand-out athlete; Ontario & Canadian All-star, five time Ontario champion, and Canadian bronze medalist with the York University Volleyball Team from 1990-1995.

 

Ken How

Ken How – highly accomplished track athlete who founded the Quinte Legion Track Club, spearheaded the construction of the Wellington Lakeshore Track, and was a dedicated Prince Edward County elementary teacher and coach for 30 years.

 

 

1920-1921 Picton AAA Intermediate Baseball Team – just after the First World War, this team captured the hearts and spirit of the community while capturing the first two Ontario Championships held by the Ontario Baseball Amateur Association.

“We are hoping that some of the team’s relatives might be interested in attending. The photo that was attached has names on the back,” said Mary Cossarin, on behalf of the PEC Sports Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony is planned for Saturday, Oct. 3 from 2 -4 p.m. at Highline Hall in Wellington. Everyone is invited to attend.
