Hungry for their first win of the season, the PECI girls hockey team posted on the positive side in a game against the St Paul’s Falcons 13-0 last Thursday. The week had started on a low point with a 5-1 loss to the Moira Trojans at PECI’s first home game of the season Tuesday. This Thursday, they hope to add another win.

Last week’s games started Tuesday against Moira with both teams battling hard, the Panthers fighting for a win. There were plenty of chances on both sides, but both goalies were shutting down the opportunities.

The Panthers started falling behind to a strong Moira offence which resulted in a goal. This brought out a fire in the Panthers and the only goal for the Panthers was scored in the last couple minutes of the first period by Celina Fox, assisted by Kendra Marion.

The second period brought the Panthers a tough battle on ice. The Trojans were coming in hard but Panthers goalie Maddy Rowbotham was stopping their chances, only having one goal scored on her during the second.

The Panthers were trying to tie up the game in the third period but the Moira offence was coming in strong. Defense was battling hard but Moira got enough chances to score three more goals.

Thursday was the Panthers’ first win of the season, beating St Paul’s Falcons 13-0.

The game was one-sided, but the Falcon’s goalie deserves recognition for playing a hard position and making some good saves. The Panther’s goalie Maddy Rowbotham also deserves special recognition for recording her first shutout of the season.

This game was a highlight for the Panthers with player Brooke Jackson scoring four goals and players Tynika Williams and Chloe Marshall scoring hat tricks. Other goals were scored by Sydney Davies, Celina Fox and Kim Pothier. Recognition to the captain Abby Terpstra for four assists and Maddy Young for three assists.

The Panthers are looking forward to their next game, expected to be a tough battle versus the St Teresa Titans Thursday at the Quinte Sport & Wellness Centre.
