PECI track and field athletes heading to East Regionals

UPDATE: Seven of the 11 athletes are moving on to East Regional competition in Ottawa this Thursday and Friday. They include:

NOVICE:
Emerson Blakely 1st High jump, 1st Triple jump, 3rd Long Jump

JUNIOR:
Drew Spencer 1st Shot Put, 4th Discus
Josh McGill 2nd 800m, 2nd 1500m
Rowan Colby 2nd 400m, 3rd 200m
Will Theakston 3rd High jump, 5th 200m, 5th Long jump

SENIOR:
Riley Grimmon 5th Javelin
Chase Colby 5th High Jump

A dozen Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) athletes will be competing at COSSA (Central Ontario Secondary Schools Association) level Thursday, May 25 following wins at the Bay of Quinte Track and Field Championships late last week.

PECI’s total team scores landed the school seventh of 14 secondary schools participating.

COSSA this year is also being held at the Bruce Faulds track at Mary Ann Sills park in Belleville. The top eight finishers in each event are eligible to move on to COSSA.

PECI will be cheering on: Emerson Blakely (novice high jump, long jump, triple jump), Chase Colby (senior high jump), Rowan Colby (junior 200 and 400m dash), Riley Grimmon (senior triple jump, javelin throw), Carter Kingsley (junior 1500 and 3000 m run), Kayda Mcansh (novice high jump), Josh McGill (junior 800 and 1500m), Derek Quick (junior 800m), Ben Smith (senior high jump), Brooke Spencer (senior 400 and 800m), Drew Spencer (junior shot put, discus and javelin) and Will Theakston (junior 200m, high jump and long jump).

The Junior boys relay team 4x400m also qualified: Rowan Colby, Josh McGill, Derek Quick and Will Theakston against all Senior teams because it is an open category.

Congratulations were extended to all athletes who competed at the Bay of Quinte event.
