The Pedal for Kids Cycling Tour cruised through Picton to West Lake this week promoting the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program which helps financially disadvantaged children participate in organized sports and recreation by covering registration, equipment or transportation costs. So far cyclists have raised more than $240,000 on their 500 km ride in five days. They launched in Kingston and plan to finish the tour in Niagara Falls Friday. Last year, Jumpstart helped 133 children in the County and the program has helped more than 440 children here since its inception in 2005. When the riders arrived at Isaiah Tubbs http://isaiahtubbs.com/ at West Lake, Jumpstart presented a Kids Activity Kit to the Recreation Outreach Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Each kit includes equipment that can be used indoors and outdoors such as basketballs, basketball nets, yoga mats, compasses and flags for orienteering, parachutes and juggling kits.
