‘Living’, ‘jazz’ and ‘bell’ were only some of the words that Alan Edmonds of Picton revealed on his Instant Crossword Deluxe ticket to win a $250,000 top prize.
Edmonds, a 59-year old father and grandfather, says he strictly plays Instant Crossword Deluxe.
On the day he won, he noted he kept finding more words than usual, and had to double check as he uncovered 11 words.
“I did a lot of double checking. I was taken aback with nine words, then I saw 10 and 11 and thought that I must have messed up somehow,” he shared, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque. “When I checked my ticket on the OLG Lottery app, the words Big Winner appeared, which I am not used to seeing,” he smiled.
For a laugh, when the electrical contractor told his family about his win, he sent them a picture of him holding both the ticket and his phone with Big Winner visible with a caption asking if ‘this ticket makes his belly look fat?’
He doesn’t have any big plans for the windfall.
“I’ll do boring things around the house like purchase new windows. I’ll also be able to retire a little earlier.”
“You kind of think when you live in a small community that you won’t win. It’s nice to know that if I didn’t pick the ticket, someone in Prince Edward County would have won,” he concluded. Edmonds bought his ticket at Scott’s Store in Picton.
The OLG Prize Centre in Toronto has resumed in-person prize claims for winning-ticket holders of $50,000 or more, by-appointment only.
In the coming weeks, OLG plans to open appointments to anyone wishing to claim their prize in-person at the Prize Centre.
Instant Crossword Deluxe costs $10 a play and the top prize is $250,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.45.
