Picton Golf Club sponsors tournament in support of laid off workers

picton-golfA fire at the Picton Golf and County Club club house last Monday has put some staff into financial hardship.
Though County firefighters saved the building housing the club house and The View Dining Room, damage inside was so extensive that the building will not be reopening until Spring 2014. The Picton Golf Club is sponsoring a mini tournament to support staff.

“Through no fault of their own, the dedicated clubhouse staff have been laid off. Only some will qualify for Employment Insurance benefits, and those that do will still have to wait for several weeks for any relief,” said David Mackay, board chairman.

The mini-tournament Thursday, Sept. 12, begins at 1:30, with all proceeds going to support clubhouse staff. Participants will be asked for a $20 donation in lieu of green fees. A donation jar will also be available in the pro shop and donations will be gratefully accepted.

“Our staff has provided us with great service.” said Mackay. “The destruction of our clubhouse has caused financial hardship for them and any support the golfing community can provide is appreciated.”

For further details, to book your tee time, or offer donations, contact the pro shop at 613 476-1485, or email proshop@pictongolf.ca

As a club member, who received great service from the now laid-off staff, I would happily pay such an assessment, if I knew it was going to them.
As a member, I cannot make it happen, but I can bring it to the attention of the Board of Directors. I feel members have a moral responsibility to help, if they can.

Perhaps ongoing support of some sort over the winter for those without other work…..?

Why not assess your members 50 dollars each. This would really show the employees that the members appreciate their services. Then divide the proceeds accordingly.
