Pirates’ powerplay parks Panthers

The Picton Pirates have the top powerplay in the Empire Junior C league and used it to their advantage in dumping the Port Hope Panthers Saturday night.
The Pirates, who have the powerplay clicking at 22.38 per cent, fired home five powerplay goals in dropping the Panther 7-2 and snapped a two game losing streak.
“I’m really proud of the club’s discipline right now and the way they are playing clean, smart hockey,” Pirates GM Jason Parks said. “When you play that way, you get afforded powerplay chances and we are cashing in.”
Although the home side scored first, Picton lead after one period 3-1.
Dylan Mountenay, Jack Davison and Brandon Peever all scored, the latter two coming on the man advantage.
Picton lead 5-2 after the second with Mitch Rosborough and Ryan Sizer (powerplay) finding the range.
Rosborough and Sizer both lit the lamp on the powerplay in the third and Haydn McInroy stopped all Port Hope shots as the Pirates won their 13th win of the season going away.
Peever and Sizer both wound up with four points each.
The win salvaged the weekend for the Bucs as the red hot Campbellford Rebels got three quick goals in the first period Thursday night to hand the Pirates just their second home loss in six games.
Picton wound up losing 6-3.
Picton also lost Tuesday night in Napanee, allowing four third period goals in a 6-2 defeat.
