Pirates’ puck drops tonight

The Picton Pirates will be looking to build on their season opening win when they host the Amherstview Jets tonight at the Prince Edward Community Centre in Picton.
The Pirates blanked the Campbellford Rebels Saturday evening in Campbellford 2-0 and opened their 21st season with a win.
Matt Kaludis had a shutout, turning aside all 20 Rebels volleys.
Both Pirates goals came in the second period and were scored on former Pirate Trevor Green whom Picton traded for financial considerations prior to the start of the Empire B season.
Down a man, Jack Davison did some fine penalty killing work in the Campbellford zone and eventually stole the puck from a Rebels defenceman.
Spotting linemate Evan Greer drifting through the high slot, Davison slid a pass to Greer who wired a shot past Green at 7:12.
About two minutes later, Pat Millington, Dylan Mountenay and Mitch Burkitt led an odd man rush into the Cambellford zone.
Green stopped the Mountenay blast but Burkitt followed up the play nicely to tap in his first junior hockey goal at 9:32.
That was all the offence Picton would need as Kaludis was solid in the Picton net.
“I can’t say enough about his performance,” Pirates GM Jason Parks said. “He was calm and technically sound, everything you would expect from a goalie that had played a season at Junior A and was returnign to Junior C.”
While it’s only the second game of the season, Picton takes on Amherstview with first place in the Empire Junior C league on the line.
Puck Drop is at 7:30 pm.
