Pirates rebound with two wins

After a two game losing streak, the Picton Pirates have rebounded and won their last two games.
Picton’s latest win was an 8-4 triumph over the visiting Napanee Raiders on Thursday evening.
The Bucs were a perfect 3-for-3 on the powerplay and scored five goals in the second period to help them to their 12th win of the season.
The Pirates (12-10-1) find themselves tied for second place in the Empire Junior C league and are only three points back of league leading Amherstview.
Picton lead 2-1 after one thanks to goals from Ryan Sizer and Ryan Vader a little under two minutes apart with less than five minutes remaining in the frame.
The home side took a commanding 7-2 lead in the second as goals from Jack Davison bookended goals from Mitch Rosborough, Dylan Mountenay and Brandon Peever.
Napanee scored within the first two minutes of the start of the third and added another about nine minutes in to cut the Pirates lead to 7-4, but Davison capped off his night with a hat trick goal with 8:23 remaining to make the final 8-4.
Picton GM Jason Parks lauded the work of Picton’s Kid line of Sizer, Davison and Jeff Kingdon.
“It’s the same old story, the youngsters are coming through for us right now and the team’s producing good results,” he said.
Sizer lead the point parade with five while assists went to Andrew Burness (2), Rosborough (3), Steve Csanyi, Davison, Kingdon, Tyler Kearns and Josh Fagan.
Davison’s hat trick made it two in as many games and the Pirates dumped the Port Hope Panthers last week 6-1.
Also scoring for the locals were Evan Greer, Rosborough and Kingdon.
Picton once again was lights out out on the powerplay, scoring four of their goals with the man advantage.
“I can’t really say enough about the powerplay unit and the system that we have developed,” Parks said. “Obviously, it’s a big part of our success right now and I hope it stays as productive as it has been.”
Assists in the 6-1 win went to Kingdon (3), Sizer (2), Fagan, Adam Finley, Mountenay, Pat Millington and Nic Shunock.
Matt Kaludis went the distance for Picton in both games, stopping 38 of 42 shots against Napanee and 25 of 26 against the Panthers.
Picton hits the road Tuesday against the Raiders for the home and home finale and hosts Campbellford next Thursday.
