Poppy Campaign underway in Prince Edward County

Mayor Steve Ferguson received the first poppy of this year’s campaign at the Picton Cenotaph from the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign Chairs from the Consecon, Picton and Wellington branches.

The County honoured the service, contributions and sacrifices of veterans and those who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces this year by painting commemorative crosswalks in Consecon, Picton and Wellington to honour Indigenous Veteran’s Day Nov. 8, and Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.

Every year, from the last Friday of October to Nov. 11, Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to honour Canada’s veterans, and remember those who sacrificed for freedoms.

During the Poppy Campagin, the poppy is distributed freely to all who wish to wear one, and the Legion gratefully accepts donations to the Poppy Fund. Donation boxes can be found throughout the County.
