Boil water advisory for Consecon, Carrying Place lifted

UPDATE SATURDAY – Effective 3:20pm, Saturday, March 25, the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted by the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit for all users of the Consecon/Carrying Place Drinking Water System.

· Sampling and testing confirms that the drinking water meets or exceeds the Provincial Water Quality Standards.

· All customers may resume normal use of the municipal drinking water for domestic purposes; however customers may wish to flush household plumbing through the cold water taps until water runs cold to the touch.

UPDATE – As a result of a watermain break in Quinte West at Trenton’s water supply facility, a precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for all municipal drinking water system customers connected in Consecon/Carrying Place. The Boil Water Advisory for Trenton, west of the Trent River, has been lifted.

It is expected to continue to at least Friday in Trenton, and to Sunday in the County because it is further down the water supply and will take longer to flush the pipes. As of Friday afternoon, no adverse drinking water sample results have been obtained from the drinking water system in relation to the event.

About 50 homes were without water in Quinte West and all residents who live west of the Trent River are being advised to bring their water to a rapid boil before using it.

The Consecon/Carrying Place system is supplied with drinking water from the city of Quinte West’s Trenton drinking water system. As a result of a water main break, lower than normal pressures have been experienced in portions of the Consecon/Carrying Place drinking water system.

As a precautionary measure, resident are being asked to bring water to a rapid boil for at least one minute prior to using it for drinking, making infant formula and juice, pets, brushing teeth, washing raw foods, making ice, etc.

The Boil Water Advisory remains in place until bacteriological tests prove that water is within accepted quality and safety limits.

Users in Consecon/Carrying Place may experience intermittent pressure fluctuations as repairs in the supply system are completed and distribution monitoring is conducted.
Once the advisory is lifted, affected users are recommended to flush household plumbing through the cold water tap until water runs cold to the touch.
