Social media was abuzz with news Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau spent Sunday in Prince Edward County.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis said the day was a personal one for the Prime Minister so any photo opportunities would be borne out of following the motorcade.
The tail end of the motorcade was exactly what Mayor Robert Quaiff captured after Justin and Sophie whizzed by his home on their bicycles. Meanwhile, the County’s First Lady Susan Quaiff zoomed off on her own bicycle, but came home without a selfie.
“As they bicycled by they said ‘hi folks’. Susan welcomed them to the County and I asked if he remembered me from his campaign. He acknowledged and said ‘yes’ and continued with the entourage,” said Quaiff. “I’m pretty impressed that they selected PEC to celebrate Sophie’s birthday.”
The Hinterland Wine Company and County Road Beer managed a group photograph.
“It was a pleasure to host our PM Justin Trudeau and Sophie, the company tweeted.
“It was an honour to meet PM Justin Trudeau and we wish Sophie a happy birthday tomorrow!”
And some heard about others, spotting the two vacationers.
Jennifer Cobb shared on social media that she and Sally Peck hiked the Millennium Trail from County Rd 64 to Wellington.
“We saw a giant turtle, many dog walkers and a birder who had made a rare sighting: PM Justin Trudeau at North Beach.”
Staff at the Agrarian Bistro posted a photo with the Prime Minister stating “Wow! What an amazing experience! Happiest of birthdays to Sophie Gregoire Trudeau. Thank you Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire Trudeau for dining with us and creating this memory we will never forget.”
They also featured an autographed Countylicious menu signed by the Prime Minister saying “For all my friends at Agrarian, Just Wonderful!”
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s 42nd birthday is Monday.
