Prince Edward County shining at Royal Winter Fair

Prince Edward County wine, cheese and giant vegetables are shining bright as winners at the opening of The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Nov. 5-14 at Exhibition Place, Toronto and the County’s Karin Desveaux-Potters, of the Economic Development Office was thrilled to be on hand to offer congratulations and she shared a few photographs with countylive.ca.
Since its inception in November 1922, The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair has become the world’s largest indoor agricultural and international equestrian competition. It draws more than 340,000 visitors to Toronto annually to see thousands of unique entries from elite Canadian and International breeders, growers and exhibitors, more than 4,500 large and small animals, shows, activities, shopping, dining and – of course – The Royal Horse Show.

The Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company won Reserve Champion for its Premium Goat Milk Cheddar; first and second place in the Surface Ripened goat cheese category; second place in the Unflavoured Fresh category for its maple chevre and first place in the Flavoured Cheese category for its applewood smoked premium goat milk cheddar. It also won first place in the category of Any Cheese made with Sheep’s Milk.
Black River Cheese won third place in the Extra Mild Cheddar category; placed 5th in the Extra Mature Cheddar category, the Mild Cheddar category, the Marble Cheddar category and the firm brick, colby etc., category.

John Vincent won third place for the biggest kohirabi at 43lbs, 6 oz; third place in the long gourd category at 8ft, 3″ and third for his giant pumpkin at 1024.4 pounds.
Shannon Langridge captured first place in the watermelon by weight at 60.2 pounds and first place with a giant pear gourd weighing 105.2 pounds.
In the Wine Competition, Closson Chase Chardonnay  South Clos Vineyard PEC VQA won bronze in the Oaked Chardonnay over $20 category. In the Unoaked Chardonnay Under $20, Black Prince Chardonnay PEC VQA won silver and Sandbanks Waves Chardonnay Ontario VQA won bronze. Rosehall Run Cabernet Franc Cold Creek PEC VQA won silver in the Cabernet Franc Over $20 and Trumpours Mill Pinot Noir PEC VQA won bronze in the Pinot Noir Under $20 category.
