QHC appoints Chief of Staff

Dr. Colin MacPherson has been named Quinte Health Care’s permanent Chief of Staff.

Dr. MacPherson has served the position in an interim capacity since April when Dr. Dick Zoutman moved to a new role as Chief of Staff in Scarborough.

“One of the major responsibilities of the Quinte Health Care Board of Directors is to ensure excellent leadership and management of the total organization,” said Stuart Wright, board chair. “As evidenced by the recent and lengthy search for a new Chief of Staff, the board and the selection committee take this responsibility very seriously.”

Wright states he is confident the appointment “puts the right person in place to oversee the professional staff at QHC and to provide the leadership required for the continued delivery of exceptional patient care and an enhanced work life for the professional staff.”

Mary Clare Egberts, President and CEO states that during his time in the interim role, MacPherson established himself as a trusted, effective, and highly regarded leader.

“It’s been inspiring to see the progress he has made in the interim role to improve physician engagement, communication and accountabilities,” said Egberts. “His collaborative approach to leadership has been effective in building strong relationships within the medical leadership team and as an integral member of our Senior Leadership Team.”

MacPherson is looking forward to continuing his work in the position.

“I have great colleagues at Quinte Health Care ‐ our professional staff are a dedicated, skilled and professional group,” he said. “I’m always learning from my fellow physician leaders and from the other members of the Senior Leadership Team. It is the people at every level of this organization who work hard every day, who give me confidence that we will meet our challenges as an organization. We all want to provide excellent health care, and I know my success as Chief of Staff will very much be about respecting and developing our many strengths. I’m really excited to see what we can do together in the coming years.”

MacPherson will remain the Chief/Medical Director of Psychiatry until a replacement is found. QHC is recruiting for another psychiatrist, then plans to start the process for filling the Chief/Medical Director role.

MacPherson has been the Chief /Medical Director of Psychiatry at QHC since 2012. He has been with QHC since 2011 as a psychiatrist and serves as the clinical lead for many of QHC’s psychiatric programs and services. He earned his medical degree at the University of Western Ontario and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto.
