The Bay of Quinte Provincial Liberal Association will be seeking a new candidate as Robert Quaiff officially wraps his political career.
The former Prince Edward County mayor announced his retirement on the weekend to give the riding association plenty of time to find a new candidate.
The 43rd Ontario general election is to be held on or before June 2, 2022.
Quaiff retired in 2018 “from the best job I ever had” as mayor to run provincially, but was struck down by the blue wave of Conservatives sent to Queen’s Park with a majority government.
“With eight grandchildren, I determined that my attention would be focused on them first,” said Quaiff. He and his wife Susan recently purchased a home in Florida and plan to spend more time there, and more time sailing.
“I’ve enjoyed my 17 years of public service but it’s time to enjoy our retirement,” he said.
