UPDATE: Waterloo Tigers win 4-3
Trailing 3-2 in their last at bat, the Tigers’ aggressive base running allowed them to force the issue and win in a walk off 4-3 to capture the 2018 Midget AA OBA Championship.
AUG 20 – County residents Will Ronan and Braeden Kelly are pitching in with their Midget Quinte Royals team to bring home Baseball Ontario AA gold this week.
The regional team will square off with the Waterloo Tigers in the championship game Wednesday night in Richmond Hill.
After losing game one against Stouffville, in a rain-delayed, 10-inning marathon, the Royals bounced back and rallied from behind to beat the Niagara Falls Falcons 11-10. They went on to beat the North York Blues 11-6 and the Baycats of Barrie 20-0. The weekend tournament’s final game was delayed due to rain.
“Known for their strong pitching, it was the Royals’ offence that led the way scoring 68 runs in four games,” said head coach Dave Cleary. “Pitching won the final game with Aaron Brennan of Trenton, and Will Ronan of Picton, shutting down the Baycats in the semifinals.”
It was big wins that caused Baseball Ontario to move the A Quinte Royals to the larger population AA for provincial finals after they went 18-3 for the season and won gold for all of Eastern Ontario.
The 12-team provincial AA championship tournament is being held in Richmond Hill.
