Community support came running in from County Marathon participants even though there was no race this year.
Mark Henry, on behalf of the County Marathon committee presented Briar Boyce of the PECMH Foundation with $2,500 last week. Part of the funds were collected from participants who donated in anticipation of there being a race in 2020.
“The County Marathon is a great community event supported by many volunteers, businesses and the municipality. It is wonderful that we can continue to give back to the community in a year when the race did not run due to COVID-19 by supporting our local hospital,” said Henry, on behalf of the race committee.
“Donations like this from the County Marathon ensure we can provide the 40,000 patients seen at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital each year with the best care possible,” said Boyce. “The runners and marathon race committee have demonstrated their commitment to keeping our hospital well equipped for everyone who lives in or visits our community.”
The committee looks forward to hosting a race on Oct. 3, 2021 should the pandemic be behind us by next fall.
