Scams cost County residents nearly $300,000

Prince Edward OPP has responded to 89 reports of fraud so far this year with reported losses to residents at just under $300,000.
“Although these frauds vary in nature, there are a number of common themes,” said Const. Aaron Miller, PEC OPP community safety officer.
“The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) reports that fraud has cost Canadians over $79.5M and it is predicted that only approximately 5 per cent of frauds are reported. Whether it be an email scam, phone scam, romance scam, emergency scam, or COVID-19 related scam, it is imperative to have these discussions and remain educated on current frauds and scams.”

Do not be afraid to say no
Do your research
Be careful who you share images with
Know who you are dealing with
