The U13 Select Wellington Lynx made a triumphant return to diamond action this past weekend, capturing a silver medal and pitching a 3-1 record at their first tournament of the season in Colborne.

The achievement marks an historic milestone for local baseball: this is the first year in more than a decade that a Select program has run in Prince Edward County (PEC), and this young squad is already proving they belong.

The Lynx kicked off the tournament with a dominant Game 1 performance, defeating Tyendinaga 10–4. Orson Larter pitched a gem, commanding the mound for five innings on just 71 pitches, while Austin Howe stepped in to earn the save.

On Saturday, the Lynx faced a resilient squad from Peterborough. The Wellington bats came alive in a high-scoring affair, driving in 16 runs. Ben Runions earned the 16–10 win on the mound, with Bentley Hicks throwing in relief and Parker Garden sealing the deal to pick up the save.

Sunday’s semi-final against the host Colborne team delivered the weekend’s most dramatic moments. In a thrilling, back-and-forth battle, Parker Nyman became the hero, hitting a walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the victory. Austin Howe started the game, with Frankie Dyer and Lyncon Harvey providing crucial relief pitching to lock down the win.

Wellington finally ran out of steam in the championship final against a tough Northumberland team. While the Lynx hung tough, they struggled to generate offense against an excellent Northumberland pitcher.

Despite the final loss, the weekend was a massive success for the newly revived program. The group showed immense hustle, heart, and potential.

Up Next: The Lynx won’t have much time to rest. They are heading to Caledon next weekend to test their mettle in a AA Rep tournament, where they will square off against top-tier teams from Western Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
