Skyway bridge closure set for Oct. 30-31

A full closure of the Skyway Bridge is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 30 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

In case of poor weather conditions, the closure may be rescheduled to take place the same time from Nov. 1 – 2.
This closure is intended for installation of structural steel girders between the North Abutment and Pier 1.

During this time, the highway will be closed, and no traffic will be permitted to pass over the bridge.

The bridge is an 850m long, high-level bridge carrying two lanes of Highway 49 traffic over the Bay of Quinte. The bridge was constructed circa 1967 and is in need of major repairs. The work will include the complete replacement of the steel girders and deck, rehabilitation of the piers, and reconstruction of the abutments. The bridge deck will be widened slightly and will include 1.5 m shoulders on each side.

Work began in 2018 with preparations for each segment of the bridge to be replaced over five years.
