A 69-year-old male pilot from Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Earlier in the day, the ultralight had conducted an emergency landing in the field after losing power. The aircraft attempted a take-off and lost power shortly thereafter, crashing into the field.
Notifications were made to Transpor t Canada as well as the Transportation Safety Board.
Nearby resident Logan Lewis said he heard a loud boom.
“What I heard sounded like a street bike or a big drone crashing like it down-geared really loud, then boom, I looked up the road and saw the fire trucks going up the laneway.”
His sister Cynara was picking raspberries when she heard a helicopter above her head.
“It’s incredible how fast they worked,” she said speaking to the ambulance, fire trucks, volunteer firefighters and police. “It looks like a small sea plane but I’m not sure.”
