Smoke alarms alert residents to fire

Occupants of a home on Carter Road in Ameliasburgh safely escaped a fire early this morning.
At 12:44 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue responded to reports of the fire.
Deputy Fire Chief Tim Kraemer said smoke alarms alerted the home’s occupants and exited the home safely.
Kraemer praised the excellent work of firefighters who brought the fire under control at 1:36 a.m. He reports there were no firefighter injuries.
An investigation will be completed to determine the area of fire origin and cause. The incident is not considered suspicious, and fire damage is estimated at $250,000.
