Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatics Centre raised $1,500 at its recent second annual Spring Squash Tournament.
“The squash tournament was originally conceived as a fundraiser for current and future renovations to the squash courts at PEFAC,” said Meloni Crandall, PEFAC general manager. “It now also draws people to the County and encourages young people to participate in a sport that promotes a healthy lifestyle.”
Thirty-two players took to the courts – including participants from Toronto, Ottawa, Brockville, Kingston, and Prince Edward County. David Sly, one of the top ranked players in the province, along with Johnny Wilson, and Richard Yendell played exhibition matches.
Winners of the divisional matches were: top ranked A Division – Vinay Lodha of Ottawa, B Division – Glen Crowley of Bloomfield, C Division – Kashil Riaz of Brockville, D Division – Tony Bento of Kingston.
The tournament received great support from local businesses, said Pete Gamble, chair of the tournament’s organizing committee. “It was a great event for spectators and participants. Thanks to all the volunteers and to PEFAC for their support. Everything came together like magic and we raised over $1,500.”
Bill Halman, Chairman of PEFAC’s Board of Directors, congratulated the group and said the tournament is a great example of what volunteers can do.
