CHEERS! to Bill Stearman, member of the Prince Edward County Quilters’ Guild, who received an award at the Quilt Canada national juried show being held in Vancouver this weekend.
He got notice Wednesday that he was winning an award and was invited to the awards ceremony.
Stearman didn’t know which quilt won as he had three accepted into the juried show, so he followed the ceremony online via Facebook and messaged with friends.
It was a third place award for his work ‘I Wish I Had a River’.
“I’m beaming. Humbled. Grateful. Blessed,” he said. “Next year Quilt Canada is in Ottawa and I have been invited to teach a class and give a lecture.”
Stearman started creating quilts in April 2014 as a diversion to pass time while he recovered from a leg issue that left him temporarily immobilized, and bored.
Since, his work has been showcased in various locations throughout the County. The award-winning quilt is to be featured at this year’s PEC Quilters’ Guild show in July.
