Students cast their ballots

Ontario Election polls are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today. countylive.ca will keep you up-to-date on the local numbers live tonight through the Cover It Live ticker feed on our home page. (see below). Students from Grades 3 – 8 participated in the election experience at Athol-South Marysburgh Public School Wednesday morning as part of the national studentvote.ca program. The event was hosted by Mr. Davies Grade 5 class. Studentvote.ca’s flagship program is a parallel election for students under voting age, coinciding with official election periods. The program combines in-class learning, family dialogue, media consumption and an authentic voting experience. The purpose is to provide young Canadians with an opportunity to experience the democratic process first-hand and to practice a habit of informed and engaged citizenship.
