While celebrating the harvest with family and friends Thanksgiving weekend, hundreds of visitors rejoiced in the season at the 25th annual Fall Heritage Day.
The fun-filled outdoor event is hosted by the Quinte Draft Horse Association at the Larry Everall Farm on Cty. Rd. 8. Horse teams from across the Quinte area demonstrated how they once worked the land. Antique tractors and implements drew knowing responses from the older generations while the youngsters marvelled at the displays.
“It’s a fun afternoon for everybody,” Everall said, noting he receives many comments of thanks and appreciation for the annual event. “There’s not much out there for people to do with a $2 admission,” he laughs. Visitors also like the fact they can pet the horses, touch the tractors and farm implements and test their skills at shelling corn or peeling apples in exactly the way it used to be done.
The day also featured wagons rides, flywheels, binders and thrashing machines. Guests could take a break on hay bales to listen to entertainment while enjoying chili, hot dogs and homemade pie.
