Runners honoured the 32nd anniversary of the Terry Fox Run while participating in the 18th annual Sandbanks Fall Getaway 10km and 5km Fun Runs Sunday at the provincial park.
Volunteers were up bright and early to set up registration, water stations, food and direction markers for the crowd of runners expected to arrive for the 5 & 10km run. There were more than 200 people registered for the Sandbanks Fun Run with others joining in for the Terry Fox Run.
It was a family run for Tim and Julia Johnston with daughters Amanda and Sarah. The day marked Amanda’s first 5km run. The 11-year-old placed second in her category. After the run, dad turned ran the 10km event then ran home to Picton as he’s in training for October’s County Marathon.
Kevin and Sandy Young brought nephew Hudson Keogh and all three received medals. Sandy was third in the over 60 group for the Women’s 5km. Kevin was third in the 10km over 60 and Hudson was first in the 14 and under 10km.
The event is held to attract people to Prince Edward County after the summer tourist season and to help raise funds for the Friends of Sandbanks and The Terry Fox organization.
