Swimmers open season with impressive results

The Belleville Youth Swim Team, including Prince Edward County members, had 43 swimmers compete recently in Pickering at their first meet of the season.
“The team raced exceptionally well considering it’s only the first month of training,” said coach Brandon Oates. “Every 13 and over swimmer placed in the top 10 in multiple events and the 12 and under athletes competed hard against some of Ontario’s best young swimmers.”
Melissa Dingle achieved six first place finishes, a second and a third. Ashley Allaire had five first place finishes, two second place finishes and a third, to go along with seven best times. Stephanie Cairns took home first place ribbons in all four of her races. Rafik Jiwa brought back three first place finishes and a second. Noah Brooks had three first place finishes and a third, plus qualified for Provincials in the 200m backstroke at 2:24.94. Melissa Dingle Other 1st place finishers were Thomas Butler in the 50m butterfly, Katelyn Cairns in the 100m butterfly, Nikki Cairns in the 400m freestyle, Nick Cinnamon in the 400m freestyle, Isabella Isbester in the 200m backstroke, Gwen Randall in the 100m butterfly and Sadie Morphet in the 50m backstroke. Sadie also qualified for Ontario Festival in the 100m IM at a time of 1:30.79.
Other BYST swimmers with top 3 placings included Jackson Bonn, Lily Charles, Morgan Clark, Olivia Goyer, Josh Lamoureux, Paige Launderville, Rylan Miller, Olivia Morphet, Leah Oster, Joseph Rittenhouse, Erin Sommerville, Lauren Taylor, Alexis Terrington and Gracey Vanberkel. The rest of the swimmers with great performances were Madalyn Andrus, Janna Arnold, Katherine Beaumont, Craig Bekker, Natalie Butler, Shalya Coe, Quintin Lichty, Jayden MacDonald, Brendan MacQuarrie, Karissa Manlow, Victoria McDowell, Jenna O’Neill, Elizabeth Peterson, Felicity Petherick, Amy Sommerville and Abby Szuch.
Swimmers who began their season with 100 per cent best times were Noah Brooks, Nikki Cairns, Nick Cinnamon, Isabella Isbester, Josh Lamoureux, Brendan MacQuarrie, Karissa Manlow, Sadie Morphet, Felicity Petherick, Alexis Terrington and Gracey Vanberkel.
On Nov. 20-22, the BYST will be hosting its first meet of the season at the Templeman Menninga Aquatic Centre. Approximately 500 athletes belonging to teams from Mississauga, Milton, Whitby, Carleton Place, Kingston, Amherstview, Ottawa and Picton will be attending.
