Programming for TASTE! – Prince Edward County’s celebration of regional cuisine – has been extended from one day, to a week of events exploring wine, food and art Sept. 23-28 including a multitude of wine tours, live entertainment, book readings and art exhibits throughout The County.
Always a sell-out event at Picton’s Crystal Palace, event-goers are encouraged to purchase tickets early for event, named in the Top 100 festivals by Festivals & Events Ontario.
TASTE! features the finest regional wines, beers, ciders, artisanal products and cuisine under one roof.
Grace Nyman, of Taste the County, the organizing body for the event, notes this year there are more than 60 booths – 19 restaurants and eight specialty food providers with 20 wineries pouring more than 60 wines from the Prince Edward County DVA (Ontario’s newest Designated Viticultural Area).
Set against the backdrop of Picton’s historic Crystal Palace, 2,000 people are expected to attend the event from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, Sept, 24th.
TASTE! highlights its partnership with local food producers by featuring a Farm and Artisan Market at the nearby Picton Curling Club. Sponsored by Waupoos Winery, this market will showcase the finest artisanal food products, local vegetables, and meat, in addition to local crafts, body care, and home/garden products. It will be open to all, not just TASTE! ticket holders.
“Local musicians will provide the perfect backdrop to this celebratory day,” says Nyman. “When your palate is satiated, take part in any number of free workshops and seminars from Fall Gardening, to Cheese-making.
“TASTE! continues to improve with age. Our 10th anniversary efforts will focus on a greener event,” says Nyman. “Guests will be encouraged to bring their own plate or purchase a reusable plate on site. We will have a stronger focus on composting and recycling and our vendors will be encouraged to creatively use zero waste presentation. All of these efforts will contribute to the overall eco-footprint of the event.”
