Supporters of the fifth annual Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf classic last week scored a collective hole-in-one raising $33,298 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s current drive for medical equipment.

“This year’s achievement brings the five-year total raised through RE/MAX’s efforts to just over $128,016 which will bring the mercury in the thermometer outside their Lake Street office to $246,298,” said Briar Boyce, communications co-ordinator for the PECMH Foundation. “RE/MAX has committed to raising $250,000 for medical equipment needs at our County Hospital. Representatives are confident they will reach this goal by the end of 2019 when they donate a portion of their year-end commissions to the Foundation.”

This year’s proceeds will purchase a defibrillator for the emergency department and one infusion pump for the Inpatient Unit at a cost of about $29,000. The remaining funds will support further equipment purchases. Defibrillators are devices that restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. An infusion pump is a medical device that delivers fluids, such as nutrients and medications, into a patient’s body in controlled amounts.

Last year’s tournament raised more than $27,500 for a replacement ventilator.

“This is truly outstanding,” said Boyce, also extending special thanks to Wilkinson and Company Chartered Accountants and Tax Specialists as title sponsor for the tournament for the fifth year in a row. Also chipping in their support as corporate sponsors were CIBC Mobile Mortgage Advisors, Market High Advertising, Herb and Kathy Pliwischkies, Port Picton Homes, Parkside Landscaping and Contracting, Wellings of Picton and Taskforce Engineering. As well, Jamie Yeo of Sobey’s in Picton sponsored the barbecue lunch while Huff Estates donated half of the wine for the take away bags. Again, we were blessed with approximately 40 local businesses who came on board as hole sponsors, thus showing their support for PECMH.”

This year’s sold-out tournament of 25 foursomes teed off under sunny skies to enjoy 18 holes on the picturesque and challenging course at the Picton Golf and Country Club, a Par 72 course.

Picton Home Hardware and Building Centre donated the prizes for the hole activities and top foursome. The winners of the various activities throughout the day were as follows:

Longest Drive Competition:
Male – Gavin Vader Female – Sheri Thompson

Closest to the Pin:
Male – Bruce Reddick Female – Ann Wannamaker

Winning foursome: Hotch’s Auto Parts (Hotch Earl, Darryl DaSilva, Roger Chartrand and Joe Letersky) at 10 under par and RE/MAX Trenton (John Lewis, Greg Parker, Gino Leone and Dave Sutton) at 10 under par.

The live auction portion of the evening saw prizes donated by the Waring House, Brookstreet Hotel, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment and tickets to Wimbledon 2020. The auction raised more than $7,000.

“The Foundation raises money in our community for the purchase of priority medical equipment needed for patient care at PECMH. Each year, our County hospital medical team treats more than 20,000 patients in our emergency department alone,” said Shannon Coull, the Foundation’s executive director. “The Foundation aims to partner with County businesses and others to help us meet the needs of our fundraising goals – bringing state-of-the-art equipment to our hospital. We are proud of RE/MAX’s ongoing efforts to Tee Up Fore Health Care.”
