Thankful diners support hospital build at Waring House art show and sale

A coronavirus safe meal with a side serving of the arts raised $1,200 to Back the Build of the new County hospital.

People dining at the Waring House on Thanksgiving weekend supported a showcase of works by a dozen members of the Arts on Main Gallery who offered 20 per cent of the proceeds to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s building campaign.

The show ran Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, showcasing more than 100 pieces of art, which included paintings, sculptures, jewelry and cards. The show saw more than 100 people and raised $1,200 to help Back the Build.

“Arts on Main was forced to close our gallery on Picton Main Street due to COVID-19,” said Iris Casey, chairperson. “It was a big decision for us to have a COVID-safe show. We are grateful to Chris and Norah Rogers of the Waring House for their generosity in giving Arts on Main Gallery a safe, physical presence to sell artwork over the Thanksgiving weekend.”

PECMH Foundation executive director Shannon Coull thanked the contributing artists, staff at the Waring House and those who purchased art.

“We are blessed to live in this generous community which is ensuring our new hospital will be built and equipped with the best medical equipment possible for years to come,” said Coull.

“We are so appreciative of our frontline workers and by choosing to Back the Build, we can ensure that access to hospital care in Prince Edward County will continue,” added Casey.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization whose mission is to raise money to advance health care for the patients of the hospital and the people of Prince Edward County. Click here to find out more at the PECMH Foundation website
