Some of the finest artists from Eastern Ontario are honouring one of their own this weekend.
Exhibitors and visitors to the 9th annual Maker’s Hand Festival of Fine Craft event honoured Carol Burrill, of Riccaro Jewellery Studio and Gallery, one of the founding exhibitors at Maker’s Hand. She passed away Oct. 18, at Hospice Prince Edward, a few days after her 56th birthday.
“She was a marvellous artist,” said Veronica Cluett, the show’s co-chair with Ann Wardrop. “We were saddened to hear about her death and we miss having her her. She was one of the show’s founding artisans.”
At her studio on Main Street Picton, near the hospital, Carol and her husband Rick invited visitors to explore her many creations, one-of-a-kind pendants, chains, bracelets, earrings and rings, all handcrafted then complemented with precious, semi-precious or Prince Edward County beach stones.
In explaining her work in the past, she said that with each design, she challenges and transforms the metal, bringing it to life and creating amazing pieces of wearable art.
Exhibitors at this year’s show include artists in ceramics, metal, fibre, mixed, stone, glass, wearable, jewellery, wood, photography and leather.
The show continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Prince Edward Community Centre, Picton with 40 exhibitors from near and far. www.themakershand.com
