The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) was humbled to receive another $2,000 gift from The Korean-Canadian Community Centre of Great Eastern Ontario.

The funds were raised through Nevada ticket sales sold by James and Annie Kim, owners of Thorne’s Variety on Union Street in Picton for approximately 30 years. A portion of the proceeds from these ticket sales are donated to PECMHF on an annual basis. They have been investing in the County hospital for more than 24 years giving 73 gifts totaling $85,934.

Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMHF notes she’s grateful to the Kim’s for introducing the foundation to the partnership with the Korean-Canadian Community of Great Eastern Ontario.

“We believe a strong community makes a hospital greater, and a great hospital makes a community stronger,” said James Kim. “Annie and I have enjoyed a great relationship with PECMHF since we moved to the community and took over the store and we are proud to continue to invest in our local hospital knowing it benefits so many people.”

Sandra Foreman, a director on the foundation board praises the diverse population that supports the hospital. “That includes full-time residents, local businesses, visitors and seasonal residents,” she said. “We are all working together and everyone has a role to play.”

“It is vital our hospital continues to deliver leading edge health care, which is one of the reasons we need a new hospital. The Korean-Canadian Community’s continued investment in our hospital resonates with us and we feel inspired by the impact their gifts continue to have on health care delivery in Prince Edward County,” said Coull.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to advance health care for the patients of the hospital and the people of Prince Edward County.
