Thursday, Jan. 31 – Three schools in Prince Edward County are closing due to a snow squall warning issued by Environment Canada.
“A snow squall over Lake Ontario is shifting slightly northward this morning, and is expected to affect the southern portion of the region today. The most impacted area is expected to be south of Wellington and Picton. Visibilities near zero in blowing snow are likely due to strong westerly winds gusting to 70 km/h. Additional snowfall amounts near 10 cm are possible today.” – Environment Canada, 10:12 a.m. January 31, 2019
The affected schools are:
- Athol-South Marysburgh Public School
- C.M.L. Snider School
- Prince Edward Collegiate Institute
Parents/guardians are being called now and are being asked to pick up their children, if possible. School staff will remain on-site until all students are picked up.
Sophaisburgh and Kente are expected to remain open.
