Three hundred run for fun, and for Terry Fox

Cool weather and a sunny sky made ideal conditions for the Sandbanks Fall Getaway Fun Run and the Terry Fox Run last Sunday at Sandbanks Provincial Park.
Organizers, volunteers and participants hailed the 19th fun run a great success. Volunteers were out bright and early to set up registration, water stations, food and direction markers for the crowd of runners expected to arrive for the 5 & 10km run.
“We had 306 people registered – our best turn out ever,” says Aggie Bortolussi, Race Director.
“Our goal has been to attract people to Prince Edward County during the fall season and to help raise funds for the Friends of Sandbanks,” says Bortolussi. “Over the years, Sandbanks has also been a venue for the Terry Fox Run as well. This partnership has been beneficial to both organizations. Not only did we raise approx. $3,000 for the Friends of Sandbanks, we raised approx. $25,349 for the Terry Fox organization.
“This run would not be possible were it not for the generous donations of our sponsors who have supported this event for so many years and the many volunteers who assisted with the logistics of staging an Ontario Roadrunners Association- sanctioned race. I would like to thank everyone who helped to make this such a success,” she said.
“It was really nice to see many local participants in our run and I’m pleased to note that many local participants were also winners in their categories,” she added.
