Trillium funding advances Hospice Prince Edward work

Hospice Prince Edward will be able to expand its services within Prince Edward County thanks to a $64,900 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Prince Edward–Hastings, congratulated Hospice Prince Edward, a not-for-profit charitable organization, for its successful application. The board of directors and staff at Hospice are celebrating the good news.

“Thanks to the grant, Hospice Prince Edward will be able to hire a program and design coordinator to enhance recruitment and relationship building in the community,” said Hospice Executive Director Nancy Parks. “This will support the growth of the organization in the community.”

Hospice PE provides end-of-life care and supports individuals and their families dealing with a life-limiting illness. A belief of Hospice is that, wherever possible, individuals should be able to live in the place of their choice when faced with end-of-life issues. Hospice PE also provides bereavement support to children, youth and adults to help rediscover life following a loss.

In 2010, Hospice Prince Edward assisted more than 125 of Prince Edward County neighbours, friends and family members. The organization works closely with the Prince Edward Family Health Team, Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors, Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward and various other community agencies to deliver individualized and appropriate plans of care to County residents. Hospice Prince Edward has a core of more than 50 especially trained volunteers providing service to the community.
