After recording zero impaired incidents in the month of December, the first full weekend of the new year saw two separate incidents where drivers were charged with impaired driving.
On Jan. 4, around 2:30 pm, Prince Edward OPP responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a residence on Burns Ave in Picton.
After speaking with the driver of the vehicle, officers detected an odour of alcohol and administered the road side screening device. After a suitable sample was not obtained, the driver was arrested and brought to the OPP detachment in Picton for follow up with a breath technician.
As a result, a 73-year-old female from Picton was charged with having more than 80mgs. of alcohol in her blood while driving a motor vehicle. She was released with a promise to appear Jan. 30 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton. Her license was suspended and her vehicle impounded.
The following day, officers conducted a R.I.D.E. program on County road 22 near London Ave in Picton. Officers spoke with a driver and subsequently charged a 53-year-old male from Picton with having more than 80mgs. of alcohol in his blood while driving a motor vehicle. He was released with a promise to appear on Jan. 30 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton. His license was suspended and his vehicle impounded.
