Updated detour route for Picton Main Sept. 26-Oct. 7

A revised detour route for the Picton Main Street reconstruction project is to be in place from Monday, Sept. 26 until Friday, Oct. 7.

During this time period, the intersection of Picton Main and Johnson streets will be closed to traffic. Construction continues on Picton Main Street in and adjacent to this intersection.

Southbound traffic will detour around the closure using McFarland Drive, Macsteven Drive, Johnson Street, Queen Street, and Paul Street.

Northbound traffic will detour around the closure using Paul Street, Jane Street, Johnson Street, MacSteven Drive, and McFarland Drive.

Local property access along Picton Main Street between McFarland Drive and Johnson Street will be maintained during the detour.

At the conclusion of this closure, two lanes of traffic will be opened on Picton Main Street for the duration of the project.

The scope of the Picton Main Street reconstruction project includes the following work:
Replacement of the existing sanitary sewer and services
Replacement of the existing watermain and services
Storm sewer replacement
Complete road reconstruction with new curb and gutters, sidewalks, asphalt pavement, and decorative street lighting

RW Tomlinson Limited, the contractor for this project, is completing the work in phases to minimize the impact to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

My street was done last year and I shared the same concerns with council and the traffic advisory committee, who responded with, “there is no law preventing drivers from using any street they want”. I translated this messaging to mean, basically shut up and put up. Stop complaining.
It’s like open season for bad drivers, and good drivers alike. The residents are the ones who suffer the most, until a critical or fatal accident occurs – which I truly hope does not. I truly empathize with you.

The lack of a Police presence is just astounding!

I live on Jane St, so try to picture a steady stream of cars, cars/trucks without mufflers, street racing down our little street and semi trucks trying to navigate the corners! Trucks should have had a completely different detour. We have had one accident at one of the corners and many close calls and lots of horn honking. We, the residents of Jane St are so done. As I am sure Paul and King St residents are as well. And absolutely no police presence to help maybe slow things down. They could have made a fortune in speeding tickets on Jane St. And the detour signs could have been more clear about south and north bound traffic. Looking forward to the end….
