Volunteers gathered Saturday at the parking lot at County Traders and Pedego in Bloomfield to prepare for brush clearing.
Councillor Steve Ferguson was among them and said “it was another example of the strength and passion of PEC’s volunteer network.”
Barry Davidson, leading the Millennium Trail Rehabilitation Ad-Hoc Committee, provided training, including information about poisonous plants, ticks and the route being undertaken.
To improve the surface, construction crews started grading on Tuesday, applying six inches of limestone screenings and rolling the surface of the trail.
This phase of upgrades will occur where the trail crosses Highway 33 east of Wellington and continues east toward Bloomfield.
Upgrades on this approximately four-km stretch of the trail will continue for approximately one week.
This section of the trail will be closed during the upgrade work and is marked appropriately.
The Millennium Trail Rehabilitation Ad-Hoc Committee, which includes representatives from the County of Prince Edward and the Prince Edward County Millennium Trail Committee, is facilitating the project.
