LETTER:
Council of Canadians Quinte would like to remind voters that this is your opportunity to have a voice in choosing the municipal representatives who will be making decisions that will affect you for the next four years!
Please take the opportunity to question and meet your local candidates face-to-face at all candidates’ meetings.
Two of our questions for candidates:
In the past year, representatives from Save Picton Bay, Tree the County, Friends of the South Shore and Council of Canadians Quinte, among others, have presented to council with concerns relating to care and protection of our environment.
Yet PEC Council currently has no committee or avenue to deal directly with these issues. If elected, what initiatives would you take to make this happen ?
Protection and management of the environment is a recognized valid municipal purpose.
Do you think enough is being done to protect our environment and water sources in PEC.
What would you do differently?
It is now universally recognized that single-use plastics, including the proliferation of bottled water, have become a scourge on the planet. Other communities are taking steps to phase out the use of plastic straws, plastic bags and bottled water, specifially in municipal buildings and at events.
If elected, what would you do in our municipality to address these issues?
– Robin Lunn and Lynne Rochon, Council of Canadians Quinte
