The Walt family continues its dedication to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, with a donation of $4,788 collected at Walt’s Sugar Shack Shindig last weekend.
John Walt, Jane Breakall and Brian Walt presented the funds in front of the plaque honouring Sarah Minette Walt’s $2,000 bequest that helped to purchase the first hospital build in George Alcorn’s house on Hill Street in 1919.
Proceeds are from the Shindig’s entry donations, flower arranging contest bids, silent auction proceeds collected so far, food sales, cow patty bingo and the 50/50 and meat draws.
A pancake breakfast started off activities as visitors piled onto hay wagons for a ride to the day-long event. Live music, face painting, antique tractors and implement demonstrations and a driver’s seat in the County’s new aerial fire truck were offered, along with live and silent auctions, food, entertainment and a vendor’s market.
Headlining the event was Chef Devan Rajkumar, culinary guest expert on Cityline TV who showed his love for food engaging his audience in preparing a local foods menu – including kale caesar salad with sirloin, T-bone, prime rib and bacon; pork patties on buns and a fresh berry gazpacho soup.
