Water main leak on York Street – traffic diverted

Emergency repairs are under way on York Street in Picton as a result of a water main leak.

With an expected completion time of 5 pm on Monday, March 18, the southbound lane on Mary Street at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and the southbound lane of York Street south of the intersection of East Mary Street will be closed for the duration of the repair.

Southbound traffic will be diverted onto Elizabeth Street at the closure. The northbound lane will remain open for the duration of the repair. Motorists are asked to avoid the construction area if possible.

The repairs are not expected to impact water quality; however, residents living in the area may experience intermittent pressure fluctuations and coloured water while construction is taking place.

If coloured water is experienced, customers are encouraged to flush their water lines at the cold water tap nearest to the water meter once maintenance is complete.

$$$$$ for water users that cannot keep up with the highest rates in Ontario.

More broken water lines. Routine maintenance and upgrades would eliminate or drastically reduce these emergencies. The dated and broken infrastructure below the ground, which are not easily visible becomes an emergency when ignored. Crumbling infrastructure deserves the same priority and attention as other developments. Why wait for emergencies when we know these services require immediate attention. The tail wagging the dog.
